But the 300ZX is still damned good and was early to the party.

I'll be honest, that actually looks really good from this angle...
But I know that it's still a 300ZX in the front and there is nothing that can save that from its straight-up ugliness.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 00:29 |

Honestly, I would rather have a 300ZX instead of a supra.

J/k, that's a nice looking S4.

To be perfectly honest? I'd rather have the 300ZX. I've never liked the look of a Supra as much as the 300ZX and I like the stronger handling focus on the Z cars more than the Supra's straight-line power.

This is the mid-engined prototype from 1985 (this particular photo was a 1987 version with updated body panels) that they based the design off of. It's interesting to see how it evolved from a "Japanese Testarossa" to the very distinct shape it has now.
Also, it shared headlights and taillights with the Lamborghini Diablo.
I personally like the JDM front end a lot more than the USDM one:

Oh please... Same era twin turbo that not only looks better, but is also faster and sounds better.

8os'... I prefer Mark III Supra over Z31.
90's... Z32 over Mark IV Supra.
Although FC3S and FD3S may have a special appeal over all.

Stop being perfectly honest, Desu! Haha just kidding.
The 300zx actually placed more of an emphasis on straight line power than the supra; the supra actually out-handled the NSX, whereas the only super/sports cars of the time that the 300zx out handled were the zr1 and 3000gt vr4. The supra won in all-out grunt, which overshadowed its incredible suspension and handling ability. It was truly first in all categories, as proven by motortrend's test in which the supra dominated all categories. Sorry for the biased fanboy rant.

Did they really share taillights? I know that they shared headlights, but I don't quite see the similarity here.

It's still ugly, lol. :-P

I'd rather something that works 24/7, thanks.

Whoa, that looked like S13 Silvia smashed together with an NSX with some MR2 in the mix. Dayum!
Also, agreed. home market always wins.

Yeah? Well I think the 300ZX is ugly. Oh wait... I can't say that. Damn!
Well the supra is definitely not ugly, so there. :p ~~••
That was saliva, ha.

This guy has the right idea. I really like all these cars but if I had to put them in order if would go FD > z32 > MK IV > FC > MK III > z31

You're right, it was just headlights. I didn't remember right, the headlights were shared with the 300ZX, and the tailights were shared with the Saleen S7, Fiat 850, and a couple of tractors.

I never said the old S4 was reliable but a z32 TT is FAR from reliable.
Not to mention it also has a cramped engine bay so good luck fixing what breaks.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 01:02 |
|
Keep in mind, I didn't say that Supra was bad... Just that I don't believe propaganda memos.
Besides... Mark III Supra was slick, and sinister with the flat nose and popup headlights... BMW E31, and Ford Probe, and others came later.
Mark IV Supra looks like... get ready for this... A bloated, rounded, front-engined copy of a Ferrari F40. It may be bullet-proof, and it may be fast, and capable of becoming even faster... but Z32 and FD-3S are better looking. SVX is more futuristic and original. Supra's only claim is being fast... and most roads have speed limits, so how important does that much extra 'fast' really mean when it is on the road?
![]() 10/27/2013 at 01:06 |

You cold bruh i weren't ready for all that. I was only kidding around and stuff, bruh.
In all seriousness, see my reply to Desu on that front. Looks are subjective, and the supra has polarizing styling.

Which is in a long time seeing that anything from Audi tends to break quickly?

...and I didn't even include Skylines or any euro cars....
But seriously it is close between those choices. I dooo love that 2jz :)
![]() 10/27/2013 at 01:19 |

That was quiet a generalized and untrue statement...
These are 15 year old twin turbo cars. Non of them are reliable by todays standards.

my 05 s4 was a maintenance nightmare. you're delusional if you think it would work all the time.

That is so pretty.

My cactus b5 S4 is still on original turbos and tranny and really just about everything... I really do not understand why they have such a unreliable reputation. It is not my first b5 either, and wont be my last. None of the ones I have owned or currently own have ever really had issues beyond expensive preventative maintenance items like timing belt and whatnot. My A4 and S4 have both been chipped since '07 and neither of them have needed replacement turbos. My A4 had a coil pack fail, and my previous b5 had a MAF sensor fail. Neither one left me stranded, just jumped into limp mode. My S4 had a door sensor go out. None of these fixes were very expensive at all and none of them left me stranded. Out of the 3 cars and 18 cumulative years of b5 ownership I really do not understand the reputation. Maybe I have just been obscenely lucky...

According to those that have driven them, they're still "boats" in comparison with more handling-oriented sports cars. Both the Z32 and the JZA80 were built for straight line speed I believe.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 09:19 |

Pff, the Z31 is totes bettar .
![]() 10/27/2013 at 11:14 |

Yeah. As much as I love the way the 300ZX looks, I think I'd just rather have an AW11 MR2 or NA Miata.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 11:17 |
|
Yeah that's my thinking as well, with the exception being that I find the Z32 incredibly ugly (even from this angle) to be perfectly honest with you.
Having already driven my mom's NA 1.6 quite a lot I'm aching to try out an AW11!
![]() 10/27/2013 at 11:20 |

It still has the ugliest headlights ever made.... why didn't they put proper pop up headlights in there.... Everything looks better with pop up headlights.

Totes underappreciated. I have some z31 porn somewhere.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 12:37 |

Here it is.
They really do have nice lines. I would love a 200ZR overnighted from Ja-pan.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 12:41 |

Oh, I love that one! It's funny how the Z31 is so under-appreciated that I've already seen pretty much every pic there is of one the Internet by now. Owning a 200ZR is a life goal of mine, and if my current plan works out alright it might become reality in 10 years if I'm lucky...
![]() 10/27/2013 at 12:54 |

Lol, I really like the Z32 aesthetically. I guess I'm just weird.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 13:00 |

Not really, from what I can gather a lot of people love the Z32 for its styling. It's usually put in a strong second place behind the S30 when I see people rank the Z gens.
![]() 10/27/2013 at 13:22 |
|
Yeah, that would be awesome. What is this "plan," if I may ask?
![]() 10/27/2013 at 13:45 |

Well, I'm currently studying game development here in Sweden, and I also intend to start studying Japanese soon-ish (probably when I'm finished with my game dev studies in 3 years unless my schedule gets a bit lighter) as well as getting a proper camera to start practicing photography. If you take these things into account along with the fact that Speedhunters is an Electronic Arts venture (and that EA DICE keep an eye on the program I study) I think you get where I'm going with this...
That, or I'll just get a job at some game developer and make enough money to get a 200ZR that way instead, but this route is more interesting...

That's not the JDM front. That's (I believe) a J Spec car. Different bumper
